God Provides "Every" Spiritual Blessing

New Year is just around the corner. It’s time to reflect, and so I sat down again and thought long and hard about the things that I’m thankful for just like what I did last year. There are so many things to be thankful about this year. First of all, I am thankful that I can get up every day and be happy with what I have. Because it takes more skill to enjoy what you have, as opposed to always wanting more to be happy. I may not have a lot, but I have all I need. In fact, I actually don't need much, just enough to be comfortable, and I am just glad that I have what I need to live and prosper.

Now, what else is there, really, to be thankful for? Well…

Here are eight of the things that I am thankful for this year.

Family and friends
Being with my friends, pamangkins, and my whole family always bring me happiness, joy and love. ‘Nuff said. [Smiles]

The Things Money Can’t Buy
Who hasn’t heard these before? Money can buy a bed, but it cannot buy sleep; money can buy books, but it cannot by brains; money can buy food, but not appetite; money can buy a house, but not a home; money can buy medicine, but not health; money can buy amusement, but not happiness; and money can buy flattery, but not respect. Well, it’s good to be reminded over and over again.

BANDS 5th Anniversary
I am thankful when BANDS marked its 5th Year Anniversary last month. When BANDS first rolled off the press about five years ago, I had no idea what was in store. All I knew was BANDS was born with nothing more than faith and love on the scene, that the new generation was hungry looking for new, great bands, and that we saw the need for a magazine that would explore the passions and insights of the exciting world of the band scene. Sure, five years of BANDS existence may not have built many pyramids, or carved a very big swath of the Grand Canyon, but when you know you’re part of the exhilarating times for rock ‘n’ roll and in a way you are chronicling the scene, that already in itself, is success. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to do what I love to do.

Great Songs/Bands/Albums in 2011
From Parokya ni Edgar to Sponge Cola to Pupil to Slapshock to Somedaydream to Foster the People to Blink-182 to The Script to Coldplay – it looks like another great year of music is about to begin in 2012. Can’t wait!

Great Concerts in 2011
From 30 Seconds to Mars to Incubus to All Time Low to Anberlin to Westlife to Black Eyed Peas to Train… life’s just great! Can’t wait to see Simple Plan, The Fray, Hanson, Dashboard Confessional and many more next year. Thanks Dayly Entertainment and Futuretainment, Inc.

Laughter
During the most difficult times, laughter becomes necessary. Without laughter, our lives become just a little more empty.  That’s why I laugh everyday (I have to) and I am thankful that I have so many reasons (big and small) to laugh. It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. Can you deny the truth of that?

Life’s Simple Pleasures
They say life is filled with simple pleasures, the little satisfying effects you never really anticipate, but always take great pleasure in. I agree. Mine are:

* Hearing my new favorite “ME” songs: This Song Saved My Life, The Story of Your Life, The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore, White Night, I Think God Can Explain, Paradise, U.F.O., Give Me Strength, Summertime, Faith (When I Let You Down), Wanna Be Sure, Science & Faith, Rebellion (Lies), Can’t Go Back Now, No Woman, No Cry, Say, Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, No Idea and Today My Life Begins.

* Lying in bed, waking up from a good dream, watching the sunrise, watching the sunset, reading a good book, finding money in a pocket that I had forgotten about, listening to the rain softly fall, enjoying a beautiful view, freebies, a good joke, watching an old movie on DVD, watching X-Factor and Glee, Federer winning his six ATP Finals, looking at old pictures, when I judged for STI’s Battle of the Bands again, unexpected gifts, Twitter, and “LIKE” on BANDS Facebook Fan Page. Oh, there are hundreds of little things we all take for granted and if we just sat down and thought about it for a while we would be amazed.

God Provides "Every" Spiritual Blessing
Ephesians 1:3 says, “God delivers perfectly and fully everything we need for our spiritual well being. God has never done a half-way job of anything. All through the Bible, there is this trail of distinctive evidence: God does what He says . . . delivers what He promises . . . establishing His sufficiency and power to supply everything we need. Every provision; every instruction; every motivation; every reason; every promise – "Every spiritual blessing" is provided by God in Christ.”

New Year is the perfect time to renew the bond of love. Here’s wishing you my love and good luck this day and always. Wishing you the season filled with fun times and good cheers.

Much love,

Simple Plan releases music video for “Summer Paradise”

Canadian pop punk band Simple Plan has released a new music video for "Summer Paradise". The video features footage from the band's recent Australian tour. Simple Plan's latest album, Get Your Heart On!, is in stores now.

Summer Paradise
Simple Plan feat. K’naan

(Intro)
D A
Take me back, take me back
Oh yeah
Bm                        G
Back to summer paradise

(Verse)
   D
My heart is sinking
A              Bm
As I'm lifting up
                           G
Above the clouds away from you
      D                 A
And I can't believe I'm leaving
     Bm                                G
Oh I don't kno-kno-know what I'm gonna do

(Refrain)
   Bm     G
But someday
D              A
I will find my way back
        Bm     G
To where your name
    F#7
Is written in the sand

(Chorus)
G                       D
Cause I remember every sunset
A                Bm    A   G
I remember every word you said
                    D        A
We were never gonna say goodbye
Say la-ta-ta-ta-ta
G                  D
Till we had to get back to
A                 Bm    A    G
Back to summer paradise with you
A                      G         D
And I'll be there in a heartbeat
  A
Oh-oh
  A                  G        D
I'll be there in a heartbeat
  A
Oh-oh
(Tell 'Em)

(Verse II) [Do Verse Chords]
My soul is broken
Streets are frozen
I can't stop these feelings melting through
And I'd give away a thousand days, oh
Just to have another one with you
What'd you say

(Refrain II) [Do Refrain Chords]
Well relax can wait
(relax can wait)
I'm crushing my ways
(uh-huh)
Playing in the sand
(me and you)
Holding your hand

(Repeat Chorus)

(Verse III) [Do Verse Chords]
Yeah I remember summer mornings
And summer evenings
Now you're right next to me
And I am freezing
Was it real?
Oh baby tell me, was I dreaming?
How can you show me paradise,
When I'm leaving?

Now my heartbeat is sinking
Hope's shrinking
When I try to speak no words
Lip-syncing
Hope this is not just wishful thinking
Tell me that you care
And I'll be there in a heartbeat

(Refrain III) [Do Refrain Chords]
Someday
I will find my way back
To where your name
Is written in the sand
Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go

(Repeat Chorus)

(Outro) [Do Chorus Chords]
I'll be there in a heartbeat
(summer paradise)
Oh-oh
I'll be there in a heartbeat

Simple Plan Live in Manila: "Get Your Heart On! Tour"

Get ready to have your simple world turned upside down as the band that gave you the hit song Welcometo My Life, Untitled and Perfect once again rocks Manila. DAYLY Entertainment and Midas Promotions proudly brings: Simple Plan Live in Manila for the Get Your Heart On! Tour.

This Canadian pop punk band from Montréal, Quebec entered the pop punk rock scene in 1999. High school friends Charles-Andre "Chuck" Comeau, Jean-Francois "Jeff" Stinco and Sebastian Lefebvre got together to form Simple Plan. Comeau met former Reset bandmate Pierre Bouvier at a Sugar Ray concert, and soon after Bouvier left Reset to join Simple Plan. David Desroriers joined the band and replaced Bouvier on bass, allowing Bouvier to concentrate on the singing.

They released their first studio album, No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls in 2002, with twelve tracks including the hit "Perfect", creating a mark on the pop punk rock scene. This was followed by Still Not Getting Any in 2004 with singles Welcome to My  Life, Shut Up!, Untitled, Crazy and Perfect World. According to the band, on this album, they wanted to explore a more "versatile" sound, still good music but not limited to the punk rock genre.

After touring for more than a year and performing for their massive music fan base, Simple Plan took some time off in 2006 to work on their 3rd album, working with producer Dave Fortman. On October 29, 2006 they released their self titled album Simple Plan with When I'm Gone as the carrier single peaking at number 26 on the UK charts, giving them their highest charting single in the UK. Simple Plan's music has now achieved global status and has earned them numerous nominations and several wins at different music awards.

Not just your average rock stars, Simple Plan has also shown their philanthropic side by donating to many non profit and advocacy groups like MTV Asia Aid Benefit, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), RADD (Recording Artists and Athletes against Drunk Driving) and Make-A Wish Foundation. Afterwards they created the Simple Plan Foundation, a foundation that focuses on teen problems.

Simple Plan also made a mark in Hollywood by having several of their songs featured in the movies Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo 2. They also appeared in the 2004 film New York Minute. The band garnered considerable worldwide recognition and their name has become a staple to many teenagers and young adults' music playlists.

To promote their 4th album Get Your Heart On!, which features collaboration with several artists like Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, Natasha Bedingfield, K'naan and All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth, Simple Plan embarks on their Get Your Heart On tour. Jet Lag feat. Natasha Bedingfield for the English version and Marie-Mai for the French version is the album's first single and has gained significant airplay worldwide.

The band has visited Manila first in March 2005, performing together with Avril Lavigne. Leaving their local fans wanting for more, they came back in August 2008 with New Found Glory and Jamie Scott. Now, Simple Plan will once again bring some punk rock induced energy into Manila on January 12, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jump, scream and sing your lungs out to the latest tunes brought to you by Simple Plan!

If your job was to interview bands/artists, name one that you would want to interview and something you would definitely want to know about them.

HOT QUIZ

I would want to interview Steve Jobs (I consider him an artist by the way).  I want to know where he gets his inspiration when designing his products. And what his prediction/vision is in technology five years from now. –Champ Lui Pio

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Aside from music what do you wanna do? Haha. –Jason Fernandez

Eraserheads. Anong favorite Eheads song ng bawat miyembro. –Mark Escueta

To any other musician, artist or band etc. I always ask who their influences are. Diego Mapa

The original line up of Guns N' Roses. What really happened between Axl and Slash?! –Marc Abaya

Tune in to Jam 88.3 every Sunday at 7pm we interview bands on Jam Sessions with Jugs and Kel.  I’d like to do an interview with Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.  –Kelvin Yu

I want to interview Sting/Radiohead. –Pat Tirano

I’d like to interview Slipknot and ask them if they were to interview me, what would they ask me… and why? No, but seriously, I would ask the Dixie Chicks – was it worth it? –Jaq Dionisio

I would interview Sponge Cola and ask "love mo ko?" Awww, sabay group hug. –Yael Yuzon

Dream interview? That's really tough! For right now it would have to be The Script. Their lyrics are amazing! What I would ask them is how do they come up with their word play?! They’re so original but as a listener you can immediately connect. Pretty hard to do.  –Mike Chan

The Dave Matthews Band would be an interesting group to interview. Then I'm gonna ask what Carter Beauford eats for breakfast...then maybe eat some myself. –Chino David

General Luna. Mahilig ba sila sa Chinese bassist? Haha. –Jerrick Sy

Definitely EHEADS! Pero dapat kumpleto sila for the interview. I wanna ask about how they wrote their songs and the experiences behind every album they recorded and their life on tour while being the biggest band in the Philippines. How they feel about being the most influential band in the country and the story that lead to the break up. As a HUGE fan of the band, I can't help but be tsismoso! Haha! Sana nga gawan sila ng movie bio! Eheads, Dolphy at Juan dela Cruz! Haha! –Gabby Alipe

If my job is to interview bands, I would like to say that I would like to interview the Eraserheads and what is their secret to composing good music. And if they reunite for a new album, can they consider me as the 5th member. If not, why not? –Luke Jickain

I'd want to interview The Red Hot Chilli Peppers (they seem like a ball of fun). I'd ask them who's idea the "sock" photo shoot was and if it was any fun for them. –Nicole Asensio

Linkin Park. "How do you keep your music very positive?" Kean Cipriano

The band called "GWAR" definitely. If you know this band you'd know why. –Chris Padilla

I think as of now, it would be Lifehouse. I really want to know the theory behind their songs, like what really is inside Jason's head while writing his songs, how they create music as a band and how do they manage to always make a simple song rock so hard! –Jay Perillo

I guess that would be The Doors. Wala, ayain ko lang sila makipag-inuman. –Karl Vito Cruz

Coldplay. How long it took and what did they have to go through before getting their big break.  –Miguel Escueta

Oasis. I wanna know just how much Liam and Noel hate each other. –Rocky Collado

I'd want to interview U2 and ask them how their journey as a band was throughout the years. After all they were all friends growing up. –Kelley Mangahas

I would like to interview The Itchyworms. I would like to know how they write their songs, what is their creative process. And how they come up with great ideas.  Enzo Miguel Villegas

Dahil sa Jam Sessions w/ Jugs & Kel, na-interview na namin lahat ng mga ini-idolo namin na banda. Ang wish list ko siguro for this year: Rico Blanco, Danny Javier, and ‘yung buong Eraserheads. –Jugs Jugueta

I would love to have a chat with Till Lindemann of Rammstein and ask him if he can speak English. Hehe. Serioulsy, I'd ask Brian Wilson what's on his mind when he did the Pet Sounds album. –Angelo Del Pilar

Beach Boys, and I want to ask Brian Wilson why he's so great at what he does and what’s his secret. Haha. –Harlon Pasion Agsaoay

I'd like to interview Hayley Williams of Paramore, especially now considering they just lost two original members. –Monty Macalino

Gary Valenciano. When and how did you know the stage is where you belong? –Chelo Aestrid

Sigurado, ERASERHEADS! Walang duda about it. Actually, ‘di ko pa naiisip kung ano gusto kong itanong sa kanila. 'Yung idea pa lang kasi na may chance na makausap ko sila as a group, probably I would be “speechless” kapag kaharap ko na silang lahat. Haha! They're my heroes. Mga idolo. Especially Ely Buendia. –Nani Naguit

This is tough! There are a lot! Pero siguro on top of my head right now is Incubus. I'll ask them, will there be a time that you guys would create another album full of sci-fi, intergalactic, ambient rock/metal-ish music just like your S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself era albums? (Which I consider the best album in my book!) Yeah I know I’d just get a NO answer from them but I'd just want to see their reactions! That would be priceless!  –Jam Bumanlag

I’d love to interview one of the most amazing jazz bands of all time, "Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers" and ask what they eat for breakfast, how they choose song titles, and Art's life story from start to finish! –Nyko Maca

Radio Active Sago Project. How they keep their music tight. –Kat Agarrado

I’d interview the members of Dream Theater, and ask them individually about their thoughts on Mike Portnoy leaving, which was a big shock to everyone. –Shaun Hilario

I would go for Splender. "How do you come out with such great songs?" –Gec Pobre

I would like to interview Heart, Paramore, Stevie Nicks and Norah Jones. Itatanong ko kung ‘di sila naging successful sa music industry, ano kaya ‘yung career nila ngayon. –Catherine Go

Hayley Williams of Paramore. I’ll ask her if she wants to marry a Filipino guy and move in here in the Philippines if there’s a chance. –Dex Yu

I'd interview The Jerks. I think they're the Rolling Stones of the Philippines and it would be cool to ask them what they think of the music scene today. –Jett Pangan

Federer targets another record in London

LONDON (AP))—Victory at the ATP World Tour Finals beginning Sunday will give the 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer a sixth title at the season-ending event, putting him one clear of Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras.

“It’s a motivation,” Federer said Friday ahead of the tournament for the year’s top eight players. “That I’ve been able to reach some of these incredible milestones has been amazing and it’s definitely been an extra motivation for me trying to equal them or trying to do something like they did.
